Gunmen attack IDPs in Mershing, South Darfur
An armed group attacked Tom Kittr internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Mershing locality, South Darfur on Sunday. A witness told Radio Dabanga that six IDPs ventured out of the camp to collect firewood, when armed men stationed outside the camp opened fire. No displaced residents were injured, but the shooting killed a donkey. The witness claimed the gunmen belonged to the Darfuri rebel group, the Sudan Liberation and Justice Movement. The gunmen held and beat the camp residents before releasing them. The incident was reported to the UN/African Union Mission in Darfur.
