Gunmen attack, attempt to rape displaced in South Darfur
Gunmen assaulted seven displaced people, including four women, in two separate incidents in Kass locality, South Darfur. The first incident occurred in Amar Jadid area; the second one in Mergum area, on Thursday. The pro-government militiamen were wearing military uniforms in both events. In Amar Jadid, west of Mila, they attacked the internally displaced Adam Mousa, Adam Ibrahim, and Abaker Toam. The three men were on their way to the farm. The herders threatened the farmers to not return to the area and cultivate their lands. In Mergum area, three gunmen assaulted four displaced women from Aradeiba camp in Kass locality, in an attempt to rape them. The women had gone out to collect firewood. They resisted the militia members’ rape attempt, which resulted in the men beating the women with sticks and whips. The perpetrators escaped when a group of herders rescued the injured women.All four women have been taken to a hospital in Kass, and one of them is seriously wounded.
