Gunmen allegedly injure 5 in Kabkabiya -Update
A gunmen attack in Kabkabiya, North Darfur, reportedly left five people injured, including a policeman, on Sunday, 2 December. After the incident, the police chased and killed the perpetrators, onlookers told Radio Dabanga. The attack occurred at 9am and was carried out by two militants, sources reported. One of the injured, the merchant Abaker Suleiman Haroun, known as Sumeet, was severely injured as he was shot when getting out his car in front of his shop, according to sources. As a result of his injuries, UNAMID evacuated him by helicopter, witnesses recounted. After shooting Haroun, the gunmen were chased by residents and by the police, an onlooker said. The groups clashed in Wadi Borgo, south of Kabkabiya, and the fighting left another four persons injured, including a policeman, Radio Dabanga was informed. Sources asserted that two of the wounded, who were caught in crossfire, were taken to an El-Fasher hospital for treatment. In addition, both gunmen were killed by the police during the clashes. A witness claimed that shops, schools and banks closed their doors on Sunday morning. Besides, residents gathered in front of the Kabkabiya hospital, where the other two wounded victims were brought to, condemning the incident and demanding safety and security, sources recounted.
