Girl, 14, raped in West Darfur
A 14 year old girl was raped by an unknown number of gunmen, near Kandomi displaced persons’ camp in West Darfur, a source told Radio Dabanga. The girl was with four others on the way back to the camp from El Geneina hospital on Monday where they were visiting a relative. Around five kilometers from the camp a group of militia wearing military uniforms, traveling on camels attacked the girls. Four of them managed to run away. The girl that didn’t escape was taken to Forest Bir al Kelab and raped repeatedly as the armed men took turns. After a day she was released, and found in a dazed state on Tuesday wandering back towards Kandomi camp. She was taken to the camp’s clinic and the case was reported to the police. A leader at the camp said residents repeatedly complain about insecurity and attacks from militia groups but regularly receive inaction. They call on the United Nations Mission in Darfur to provide support and protection for internally displaced persons.
