Four displaced missing after militia raid on West Darfur camp
In an attack on Armenkul camp for displaced persons in Sirba locality, West Darfur on Wednesday, four people were reportedly abducted and large numbers of livestock stolen. A sheikh from the camp told Radio Dabanga that a group of 10 militiamen entered the camp on Wednesday and stole 750 sheep and several cows. The sheikh said that a group of residents chased after the militiamen and a clash ensued to the north of the camp. However, the militiamen subjected the persuers to “a hail of gunfire” and they were forced to withdraw. “We then realised that four people were missing. We cannot confirm whether they are dead, or have been abducted by the militiamen,” he said. Nertiti vendor robbed At North camp for the displaced in Nertiti, Central Darfur, members of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) allegedly robbed street vendor Mubarak Ismail Issa on Wednesday evening at gunpoint of a number of mobile phones and his stock of cigarettes. A sheikh told Radio Dabanga that three of the soldiers fired into the air before the robbery. “The displaced then pursued the soldiers to the nearby army garrison and complained to their commander, who arrested the soldiers.” The sheikh said that the commander promised to bring the perpetrators to justice but the displaced were unable to retrieve the goods.
