Former Darfur rebel kills two near El Fasher

Two brothers were killed on Wednesday near El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, by a member of the former rebel group Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM). LJM, headed by Dr Tijani Sese. The LJM signed a peace agreement in 2011 with the Government of Sudan.The victims, Musa Ahmed Abdallah (40) and El Hadi Ahmed Abdallah (36), lived in Zamzam camp for the displaced, located 7km south of El Fasher. An activist said that the former rebel was trying to rob the two brothers inside their house before killing them at around 9pm.On the same evening, before killing the brothers, the alleged perpetrator had robbed Mohamed Ahmed, stabbed Naima Adam Abakar, and injured another.Zamzam displaced then formed a rescue team, and managed to hunt down and arrest the alleged offender inside his house, where they found various stolen items.The source explained that some former LJM rebels are tasked with protecting the camps for the displaced. Instead, he added, Zamzam camp has lately seen a series of repeated assaults by the same group.He appealed to Unamid and local authorities to protect the displaced, and to stop arming irregular forces.File photo
