Brigadier Ahmed Bahar, a former Sudanese army general, was tortured to death in a military intelligence detention camp, reports suggested on Wednesday.Brigadier Ahmed, grandson of Sultan Jibna, suffered from physical injuries and died in a prison in Kadugli on June 15. Ahmed was arrested on June 8.
Ahmed Harun, governor of South Kordofan, is said to have personally directed the interrogation in this case. Harun is one of the key Sudanese government officials indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague and accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur.
Qamar Dahlman, media advisor to the head of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), told Radio Dabanga that sources within the security services of the system and eye witnesses confirmed that Brigadier Ahmad Bahar died as a result of ill-treatment in prison.
Dalhman said, “This proves that the ruling NCP (National Congress Party) is deliberately targeting Nuban populations and working towards their liquidation.”
