Fires destroy nine homes in South Darfur camps
On Saturday, a fire broke out in El Salam camp for the displaced near Nyala, capital of South Darfur. Four shelters burned to ashes. On the same day, five homes at the nearby Dereig camp were destroyed by fire. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, an El Salam camp elder reported that the strong wind on Saturday fanned a small fire that started in one of the houses so that pread rapidly over the southern part of the camp. “Four shelters burned to the ground, and two were damaged partially. The victims are now temporarily accommodated at the Ibrahim Omar Mosque in El Salam Block ten.” The source added that on the same day, shooting into the air by militiamen near Dereig camp, Nyala locality, ignited a fire that destroyed five shelters.
