Fire destroys tents in South Darfur IDP camp

A large fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon in the internally displaced persons (IDP) camp of Um Serko in Gereida locality, South Darfur injuring many IDPs. Witnesses said some livestock and tents were destroyed, leading to 103 beds being lost. They said the IDPs tried to extinguish the fire but failed causing the fire to spread to more tents constructed of plastic sheeting. The cause of the fire remains unknown. A witness said those affected are living exposed, with only trees for shelter. No local authorities or organizations have visited the area yet. He appealed to humanitarian organizations and authorities to provide them with urgent help.
