Fire destroys farmlands, 300 houses in East Darfur camp
An extensive fire reportedly broke out at El Neem camp for the displaced in Ed Daein, the capital of East Darfur, on Thursday. More than 300 houses and vast tracts of farmland were destroyed. Two people were transferred to Ed Daein hospital with severe burns. A camp resident told Radio Dabanga that the cause of the fire is not clear. Civil Defence troops’ intervention was hampered by the camp’s narrow roads, so they could not extinguish the fire quickly enough. The camp resident appealed to the local authorities, relief organisations and the Chamber of Commerce in Ed Daein to provide aid to the camp.
