Fire destroys 25 homes in east Chad camp
A fire in Goz Amer camp for Sudanese refugees in east Chad on Sunday left around 25 homes completely destroyed. Although the fire did not cause any casualties, it resulted in considerable material damage.A witness from the camp informed Radio Dabanga that the affected refugees lost all their belongings in the fire. He added that in a similar incident on Tuesday, 13 February, a number of 30 homes burnt down in the same camp. About the cause of the fires, the witness stated there was no reason to assume they were caused on purpose and added that both fires broke out during food preparation and that the wind caused the fires to spread rapidly. Moreover, he said that the refugees provided support and help to those affected by the fire, including donations of equipment and tools for rebuilding of homes.
