Fear of disease among North Darfur displaced
About 10,000 newly displaced civilians who fled last week’s attacks by government-backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on villages in Kutum locality, North Darfur, have reported an outbreak of diseases. The people, who have taken refuge in the Um Gozain mountains, Hama Gasa Forest, the mountains of Toro Boro, and Khiran Kasana, have reported cases of measles, whooping cough and diarrhoea, especially among children and the infirm. Listeners told Radio Dabanga that no humanitarian relief has reached them. “The displaced are living under harsh conditions. They have no food, water, or shelter, and are suffering from the heat.” They appealed to humanitarian organisations to come to their rescue.File photo: A baby from Kassab camp for the displaced, in Kutum (North Darfur), waits to be examined by doctors.
