Famine, disease afflict Sudanese refugees in CAR
The Sudanese residents of Bembere refugee camp in the Central African Republic (CAR) have reportedly not had access to food rations for nearly two months. Abdelrahman Ismail, the head of the camp, reported to Radio Dabanga that the refugees are living in very harsh conditions and are short of food: “Aid stopped 55 days ago.” He added that a “mysterious disease” has emerged of which three women and an infant have died in the last two weeks.Sheikh Ismail said that the symptoms of the disease are headache, chest pains, and vomiting blood. The causes have not been identified so far. He appealed to humanitarian organisations to provide the refugees with food and medicines as soon as possible.
