Families of Darfur detainees demand release or trial
The families of five men, including a university student, arrested on 5 January in Girayda locality, South Darfur, have demanded that the men either be released or brought to trial. One of the relatives told Radio Dabanga that the men were arrested by security forces seven months ago. No reason was given for their arrest. The relative alleges that the detainees “have been subjected to all manner of beatings, torture and insults in Kober prison in Khartoum”. The detainees are Omda Suleiman Mustapha who is a second-level economy student at Khartoum’s University of Niles, Qasim Ahmed Mohamed Abu Tugala, Adam Ismail Noor, Adil Hassan Malek, and Mahmoud Adam Mahmoud.
