EU Vice-President meets with Foreign Ministers of both Sudans
Catherine Ashton, Vice-President and High Representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy, has met with the Foreign Ministers of Sudan and South Sudan Ali Ahmed Karti and Barnaba Marial Benjamin to discuss the issues of peace and development and the role of the EU in the coming period. The meeting occurred peripheral to the summit hosted by the EU on the situation in Somalia, according to the EU press officer in Sudan, Ahmed El Tayeb. During the meeting, Catherine Ashton welcomed the results of Salva Kiir’s visit to Khartoum and confirmed the EU’s support for peace and good neighborly relations between Sudan and South Sudan. She added that the EU looks forward to the implementation of all the agreements signed between the two countries to achieve stability for finding opportunities for sustainable development.
