En Nahud detainees transferred, newspapers seized in Sudan

Six members of the Sudanese Congress Party and a journalist detained in En Nahud, West Kordofan, were transferred to El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, on Tuesday. On the same day, the security service in Khartoum confiscated the print runs of two newspapers.Journalist Hassan Ishag and six members of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP), held in custody by the National Security and Intelligence Service (NISS) in En Nahud, were transferred to the prison in El Obeid early on Tuesday morning, SCP spokesman, Bakri Yousif, told Radio Dabanga.“Besides Hassan Ishag, the transferred detainees are Samiya Kir Abdallah, SCP Secretary-General, detained on 28 June, and Marwan Arja, Fathi Mohamed, Mohamed Abdin, Nasreldin Hussein, and Abdel Rahim Osman, student members of the party who were detained on 10 June.” Hassan Ishag and the five students started a hunger strike on Thursday, 19 June, in protest against their detention without being charged.Newspapers The security service confiscated the print runs of El Taghyeer and El Akhbar daily newspapers in Khartoum on Tuesday morning, without giving a reason. El Akhbar resumed printing just a week ago following a previous ban.
