El Geneina: electricity scarce “for months”
Residents from El Geneina, capital of West Darfur, complained to Radio Dabanga about the poor availability of electricity in the city. They said this situation already lasts for several months, and that they have power only five hours per day in the evenings. El Geneina citizens informed Radio Dabanga that this situation is specifically affecting shops’ and industrial crafts’ owners and that many of them have shut down their businesses. They added that due to this situation many people are currently unable to support their families. Residents explained that power is available only from 7pm to midnight. Sources stressed they cannot use generators because the price of the fuel is very high. They said one barrel of benzine costs 1.1 million Sudanese pounds (SGP) and a barrel of gasoline costs 750 thousand SGP. El Geneina citizens appealed to state authorities to resolve the electricity problem so that they can re-open their business and support their families.
