Ed El Fursan activists released in South Darfur
Officers of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) released five activists after one month of detention in Nyala, capital of South Darfur.
In end May, young activists in South Darfur’s Ed El Fursan organised a peaceful protest against the continuing water and electricity outages, and the deterioration of health services in the locality.
Reports about the detention of three of them reached Radio Dabanga on 25 May. Later, the Darfur Bar Association made mention of four activists being held incommunicado by the NISS in Nyala.
In a statement on Saturday, the Ed El Fursan Association praised the five activists, and described their role as “heroic” with regard to “the deliberate neglect of the government of South Darfur in providing services to Ed El Fursan”.
