East Darfur Ma’aliya, Rizeigat clashes ‘contained’
The East Darfur State government announced on Monday that the clashes between the Ma’aliya and Rizeigat in Abu Karinka locality have been contained. On Saturday, fierce fighting broke out between Ma’aliya and Rizeigat tribesmen over the theft of a horse, a camel, and two donkeys. At least 47 men were killed, and dozens were wounded. Abdallah Yagoub, the Commissioner of Abu Karinka locality, told Radio Dabanga that the clashes stopped after government troops were deployed to separate “these thugs”. The Commissioner, however, pointed to gathering of tribesmen in Abu Jabra locality. He stressed that it is the duty of Rizeigat and Ma’aliya native administration leaders to prevent renewed fighting.
