Dutch special envoy in North Darfur

Bonis will meet Gambari on her two-day visit to the regionDesiree Bonis, Dutch special envoy for Sudan, arrived in El Fasher, North Darfur, on Monday for a two-day visit to the region.

She was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Khartoum. Bonis met Gambari at the United Nation African Mission in Darfur’s (UNAMID’s) headquarters. On the two-day visit Bonis will meet UNAMID senior officials, UN agencies, humanitarian workers and civil society organizations.

This trip marks Bonis’ first visit to Sudan. Though it is aimed at gaining first-hand knowledge of the security and humanitarian situation in Darfur, the outcome of her meeting with Gambari has not yet been revealed.
