Traditional opposition party meets with ex-rebel peace signatoryThe Democratic Unionist Party-Mainstream declared its support for the Doha Agreement that was signed in July between the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) and the Sudanese government. The DUP-Mainstream, headed by Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani, is one of the oldest parties of Sudan.
The party’s counselor on Darfur, Ahmed Saad Omar, said that the Government of Qatar asked the chairman of the party to support the Darfur peace. He explained that Al-Mirghani and party figures met the LJM delegation and subsequently decided to support the LJM due to the party’s concern on the Darfur issue.
For his part, the deputy head of the LJM Ahmed Abdul Shafi said that the meeting with the DUP-Mainstream was a step in communicating with all the Sudanese political forces, especially since all the political forces have placed the Darfur issue as a priority.
