DRA security workshop concludes in West Darfur
In El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, a three-day workshop on Security and Social Peace was concluded on Saturday. The workshop, organised by the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) discussed the proliferation of small arms and the role of the native administration in the region. At a press conference convened after the workshop, West Darfur State Cabinet Minister Ahmed Fadul described the extensive spread of weapons in the hands of citizens as one of the main causes of the conflict. The head of the DRA, Dr Tijani Sese, stated that the possession of arms should be regulated in the region. The Governor of West Darfur, Haidar Galokuma, called on the Darfuris to renounce tribal affiliations and overcome their narrow interests for the sake of Darfur.Sultan Saad Abdel Rahman Bahreldin, the chairman of the DRA Council, stressed the importance to grant full powers to the native administration and hold it accountable.
