Dozens of students detained in Sudan’s White Nile state
Dozens of students of the University of Bakht El Rida in White Nile state were detained on Sunday.
The students started a sit-in at the campus on Thursday, in protest against the deteriorating study environment, and the management’s insistence to hold the graduation ceremony of “batch 15” in the morning instead of the evening.

The students started a sit-in at the campus on Thursday, in protest against the deteriorating study environment, and the management’s insistence to hold the graduation ceremony of “batch 15” in the morning instead of the evening.
“After four days of protests, the management requested the police and the security apparatus to intervene,” a student told Radio Dabanga from Bakht El Rida.
“They raided the campus on Sunday firing into the air. They used tear gas and batons to disperse us. Many students fainted. The Examinations Office, the Library, and the offices of the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and the Registrar went up in flames. Dozens of students were detained.”
He said that they have not been able to list the detained students, as security agents and policemen were still chasing students at the campus and in the streets on Monday.
