Dissident Border Guards confirm North Darfur clash
A group of the paramilitary Border Guards confirmed that it clashed with Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) elements in El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, on Monday. The group claimed it has seceded from the government forces. Border Guards lieutenant Musab Hamdo Mohamed Mahmoud Salem, leader of the group, stated that they defected because of the Sudanese regime’s “bad treatment” of the Border Guards. Musab Salem disclosed that the dissident group was surrounded by government forces in three tanks and 70 vehicles in El Ziyadiya district, El Fasher, on Monday. He claimed that the group decided to leave the district, in order to safeguard the residents. However, the SAF attacked them at the eastern exit. Musab said that both sides used heavy artillery.
