Displaced robbed in Nierteti, Central Darfur

On Saturday, militiamen on horseback robbed a group of displaced people returning from the market of Nierteti to Korji in Central Darfur. A similar incident occurred on Sunday. One of the victims told Radio Dabanga that “Janjaweed on horses intercepted us at Khor Khol when we were on our way back to Korji, after visiting the Nierteti market on Saturday evening. They beat us, and tied us to trees, after which they took all our money, mobile phones, and purchases.” On Sunday evening, five displaced people from the area of Tado, east of Nierteti town, were ambushed by militiamen while returning from the market of Nierteti. “The attackers took all our money, mobile phones, and stripped us of our clothes,” one of the victims reported to Radio Dabanga. He urged the UN and Unamid to “immediately provide protection to the displaced who are continuously exposed to murder, robbery, and rape by these government-backed gunmen”. File photo
