Displaced man murdered, two children drown in Darfur camps

A resident of El Salam camp for the displaced in Kabkabiya, North Dafur, was reportedly gunned-down by militiamen on Monday. A sheikh of the camp told Radio Dabanga that “two pro-government militiamen opened fire on Daoud Abdullah Adam (65) in the area of Tebkeen, 10km east of Kabkabiya, as he returned to the camp from his farm”. The sheikh said that Adam died was killed outright. “A group of residents was able to apprehend one of the perpetrators on Tuesday morning, and handed him over to the police.” He appealed to the authorities and Unamid to conduct daily patrols to protect the displaced. Two young children have reportedly drowned in camp Saraf Jidad in Sirba locality, West Darfur. A sheikh told Radio Dabanga that Badria Hassan Nour (2), Hawaa Al Toum Al Nile (1), and Eve Toum Al Nile old drowned in one of the pools of water left after the recent heavy rains. He appealed to the authorities and humanitarian organisations to bridge or drain the pools to prevent the deaths of any more children.
