Displaced against ‘reform’ of Saraf Jidad market, West Darfur
A decision by the Commissioner of Sirba locality to ‘reform’ the market at camp Saraf Jidad in West Darfur, has been rejected by the camp residents. According to the Commissioner’s scheme, lots of the market would be redistributed, each one costing SDG370 ($85). A leader of the displaced told Radio Dabanga that the displaced consider the decision to be “unlawful and constitutes a flagrant violation of the rights of the people of the camp”. He said “the intent is to dismantle the camp and sell its lands to traders”, accusing the Commissioner of “investing in the land of the displaced to give it to other traders”.File photo by UnamidRelated:Police prevent market looting after tribal killing in Central Darfur (3 June 2013)Camp market closed ‘indefinitely’ after attacks by militants, W.
