‘Detained student tortured to death in West Darfur’
A university student has reportedly succumbed to his injuries sustained in security detention in El Geneina, capital of West Darfur.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a neighbour said that Salah Gamar, student at the University of El Geneina, died on Monday.
“Security officers seized Salah during a raid of the campus of El Geneina University last week, and took him to an unknown location,” he reported.
“On Monday, he was thrown from a car in front of his home in El Geneina. His relatives took him to the hospital, where he died of the consequences of severe torture.”
Gamar was a fourth year student at the Faculty of Economics of the University of El Geneina, and an active volunteer in a civil society organisation.
