Darfuris in Cairo protest at UNHCR office
Dozens of refugees from the Darfur living in Cairo held a sit-in yesterday outside the office of the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). They asked the UN for protection after being subjected to harassment, beatings, and break-ins to their homes by some Egyptians during the demonstrations that erupted in Egypt two weeks ago.
Dozens of refugees from the Darfur living in Cairo held a sit-in yesterday outside the office of the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). They asked the UN for protection after being subjected to harassment, beatings, and break-ins to their homes by some Egyptians during the demonstrations that erupted in Egypt two weeks ago.The protesters told Radio Dabanga that they cannot walk in the streets of Cairo as a result of severe harassment. They said that the UNHCR office was closed and no one responded to their calls. They appealed to UNHCR and the United Nations to act immediately to protect them.
