Darfuri student remains in detention
The President of the Darfur Association of Students, Muhammed Idris detained at the University of Khartoum is entering his 11th day in detention. Darfuri students told Radio Dabanga he has not been brought to trial and they are worried about what may be happening to him. They accused university departments along with the security and intelligence apparatus of targeting them solely because they are Darfuri. One student at Sudan’s University of Science and Technology said regardless of a Darfuri student’s political affiliation, security forces along with the university institutions were accusing them of being affiliated to rebel movements and targeting them as a result. He said this has led to some students also targeting them with weapons, such as those affiliated with the National Congress Party taking dangerous firearms and knives into universities.
