Darfuri student protesters in Khartoum court
Ten Darfuri students from the University of Bahri appeared before a criminal court on Monday for several charges.
Ten students from the University of Bahri appeared before the criminal court at El Doroshab, against the backdrop of incidents at the university on Monday.
Government forces on Monday raided the Kadaro compound of Bahri University, using batons, metal bars, and tear gas to disperse a political gathering, arranged by the Darfur Students’ Association. A number of students were injured, and dozens were detained.
Lawyer Jibril Hassabo, a member of the defence team, told Radio Dabanga that the students were charged with 'public nuisance' and 'jeopardising public safety'. The lawyer explained that the court has postponed the next session to 29 December.
Hassabo pointed out that the defendants were released on bail. Their names are: Ahmed Ibrahim, Abdalla Eisa, El Sadig Mohamed Doud, Nazar Khamis, Abdallah Omar Yagoub, Saleh Mohamed Suleiman, Abdelmoneim, Abubakr Hamid Mubarak, Mubarak Ismail Osman, and Sharafeldin Juma Saleh.
