Darfuri student exhibition trashed
On Tuesday, a cultural exhibition held by the Darfur Association of Students was attacked by students affiliated with the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) at Sudan University in Khartoum. Speaking to Radio Dabanga a student said that the exhibition was celebrating the historical leaders of Darfur and included a picture of Khalil Ibrahim, the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) leader killed last week. The NCP students trashed the pictures at the exhibition. They also reportedly attacked a debate held by the Darfuri students condemning the killing of the JEM leader. The student said the NCP students used sticks and poles to beat the Darfuri students and threatened them with Molotov cocktails, Kalashnikov rifles and pistols, for holding the debate in solidarity with JEM. Three Darfuri students Muhammed Ali, Idris Haroun and Addul Halim Osman were arrested at the university by security services, said the source. Students remain in detention after arrests at University of Khartoum The students from the Darfur Association of Students including its president, arrested at the University of Khartoum last week still remain in detention, said a witness.The Darfuri students appeal for the president, Muhammed Idris Jidu, along with the other students to be immediately released.
