Darfur women near Mornei Camp suffer narrow escape

A local armed militia chased a group of women last week while they were cutting wood 2 kilometers away from Mornei camp in West Darfur. A witness told Radio Dabanga that the women managed to escape from the militias and revealed that they arrived to the camp panicked and nervous. He added that women go to gather wood in order to get money for their children despite the danger in doing so.On the other hand, the displaced people in Mornei camp are suffering terrible living conditions due to the halt in distribution of rations for three months. A displaced person pointed out the difficulty in getting drinking water due to the stopping of a British organization from working in the area. The displaced person told Radio Dabanga that the lines for water starts from three in the morning and that the women cross a long distance to Wadi Madri to get water. He noted that a fee of 25 pounds was imposed to register the students in schools which led a lot to drop out of school, especially those from families with large number of school-aged children in them.
