Darfur Peace follow-up meeting in El Fasher

El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, will host the seventh meeting of the international Follow-up Committee for the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) on 16 December. According to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), the Arab League Representative to Sudan, Ambassador Salah Abu Halima said that the Committee will review the implementation of the DDPD, the obstacles hampering the implementation as well as the reconstruction and development process in Darfur. The meeting will also discuss the relations with a number of non-signatory rebel movements who will meet in Addis Ababa with Unamid head, Mohamed Ibn Chambas on Monday. Abu Halima said the meeting will be held in a time that the peace process witnesses positive steps, especially following the arrival of the Justice and Equality Movement faction led by the late Mohamed Bashar (JEM-Bashar), which signed the Doha peace agreement last April.
