Critical fuel shortage in Sudan’s Kassala, El Gedaref

The ongoing fuel shortage in Sudan is reaching critical proportions in parts of Sudan causing backlogs and logistical congestion for passenger and goods transport.

In New Halfa in Kassala state a fuel crisis since last Saturday means that most of the fuel stations in the locality have been closed. Callers told Radio Dabanga that long queues of vehicles are stranded in front of the fuel stations without getting fuel.

The authorities have limited that the quantities of fuel to be supplied to SDG 90 ($5*) for vehicles and SDG 15 ($0.82) for motorcycles.

El Gedaref

El Gedaref has also been experiencing a severe fuel and drinking water crisis for the last two weeks.

Radio Dabanga correspondent Osama El Sayed reported that vehicles queue in front of fuel stations on a daily basis. A large number of the city's districts are experiencing a severe drinking water crisis and residents are forced to buy water from carts.
