Convoys robbed by militiamen in Darfur
A convoy of 13 busses and commercial vehicles was reportedly stopped, “taxed”, and robbed by militiamen in the area of Abu Hamra in North Darfur on Tuesday. A witness told Radio Dabanga that a group of militiamen led by a man identified only as “Abubashir” intercepted the convoy that was travelling from South Darfur capital Nyala to North Darfur capital El Fasher. “They forced each of the drivers to pay SDG50 ($11) as well as to hand over two jerry cans of fuel,” he said. Witnesses say that the same group of militiamen stopped and robbed a convoy of six busses on the same road on Sunday. During that incident, the passengers were allegedly beaten, and forced to hand over their money and mobile phones. File photo: Transport in Darfur
