Concerns about increase in tuition fees and deteriorating classrooms in Mukjar
Parents of primary and secondary school levels pupils at Mukjar county have complained of the increase in tuition fees. In addition, there is a lack of curriculum materials and teachers. The conditions of the classrooms deteriorated due to the recent torrential rainfall. One of the pupils’ parents told Radio Dabanga that the school administration raised the tuition fees for high school students from 150 Sudanese Pounds (SDG) to 200 Sudanese Pouonds (SDG). The tuition fees for the primary stage increased from 25 SDG to 75 SDG. The parent added there are only 16 teachers, including 9 volunteers, for both boys and girls secondary schools. He said that most of the school’s pupils of the primary stage are seated on the floors of classrooms and are suffering of both the rain in autumn as well as the heat during summer.
