Commissioner targeted in South Darfur murder case
A number of lawyers filed an application to the legal department of South Darfur state on Tuesday, to refer the case that was opened in the murder of a herder in Gireida locality. They attempt to lift the locality commissioner of his immunity and bring him to trial. The defence team of the deceased Mohamed Jibril Abdelrahman demanded the referral of Gireida to Nyala, in order to lift the immunity from Gireida commissioner Yahya Abdelbanat. Abdelbanat’s bodyguard is accused of killing herder Abdelrahman in El Tawila area on 9 December.Lawyer Mohamed Abu Bakr explained to Radio Dabanga that the request to refer the case also happened because of the tension between the families of the deceased and the offender’s, as well as the security situation in Gireida. Abu Bakr confirmed that the legal department in Nyala has approved the request and sent a signal to the police in Gireida, to transport the papers of the case. He added that the defence team of the deceased would proceed and demand the lifting of immunity from the Gireida commissioner, and his arrest upon the arrival of the papers.
