The Commissioner of Saraf Omra in North Darfur expelled a delegation of women from his office last week. The women, who lived in Al Jabal, Al Naseem and Dankoj refugee camps, were asked to leave the commissioner’s office after they went to him with concerns over security, health and humanitarian issues.

An activist from these camps told Radio Dabanga: “The women went there after there was a rise in deaths among children and elderly people due to malaria, diarrhea and malnutrition. They also brought to notice the lack of medicines.”

The activist, whose name Radio Dabanga must conceal for his own protection, said that five people, including three children, had died within the last couple of days.

The women had also complained about the food shortage, thefts, threats and attacks by the government forces. In response, the commissioner reportedly blamed the women for being the cause of all problems and asked them to return to where they came from.
