Classrooms overloaded, facilities lacking in Misterei, West Darfur

Parents in Misterei, West Darfur, complain of the conditions in which their children have to learn at school. A parent told Radio Dabanga on Sunday that the five basic schools and two secondary schools in Misterei, located southwest of West Darfur’s capital El Geneina, also receive pupils from the camps for the displaced in the area. “There are seven teachers for the about 1000 pupils in the basic school my children are going to. The class rooms, made of straw, are overloaded. The average number of pupils in one class exceeds 200. There is not only a shortage of teachers, also school books, notebooks, tables and benches are lacking.” The parent urged the local authorities to provide the missing materials.
