‘Citizens should demonstrate against high prices in Darfur’
High prices in the three states of Darfur are causing anger and discontent amongst citizens, sources told Radio Dabanga. Sources said there were food shortages as a result of crop failures in North Darfur, and areas such as Buram in South Darfur were feeling sharp rises from the blockades of commercial trucks along trade routes from Khartoum to Darfur. A citizen from Buram locality said that more people are feeling the price rises as their salaries are ceasing to cover the prices of daily staple commodities, with many items reaching prices equal to typical monthly salaries. He said a sack of flour reached 300 Sudanese pounds (SDG), a daily serving of beans was costing a family 135 SDG and a small measuring of cooking oil was expected to reach 10 SDG this week. He said the only solution now was for citizens to go out and demonstrate against the rising prices in Darfur and across Sudan.
