Citizens protest in South Darfur

Seek reversal of their commissioner’s decision to cede an area to adjoining council Citizens of Dimsou locality in South Darfur refuted their commissioner’s decision to allocate one of the areas falling under its administration to an adjoining council. Youth and women’s representatives in Dimsou locality demonstrated against commissioner Kader Mansour Batabie’s decision to cede Majabi area to neighboring Kateila locality. More than 50 civilians gathered in order to seek a reversal of the resolution, citing that the transfer of land to another administration will increase risks of clashes between residents. The protests, which took place outside the commissioner’s office, appealed to the South Darfur governor Hamid Musa Kasha to intervene and cancel the resolution and let Majabi remain in Dimsou locality, a local leader told Radio Dabanga. There have been clashes between different tribes in Dimsou previously over the land in Majabi area.
