Child struck by lightning dies in Sudanese refugee camp
One child was killed and another was injured after being struck by lightening near Gaga camp for Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad on Tuesday.A relative of the deceased informed Radio Dabanga that the children were caught in the rain upon returning from their farm near the Gaga camp when they were struck: “Ikhlas Yaqoub Adam died on the spot and Aseela Yaqoub Adam was injured.”Refugees in Goz Amer camp, also in eastern Chad, are “suffering critical humanitarian conditions due to lack of medicines and the outbreak of diseases among children”.A local source said that more than 3,500 people were transferred from Tissi, Chad, to Goz Amer. “They are are suffering from malaria, diarrhoea, and gastroenteritis, especially the children,” he said, explaining that “most refugees lack access to tents.”Refugees are calling upon the UNHCR and other humanitarian organisations to expedite the provision of support.
