Central Darfur’s Um Dukhun ‘relatively calm’ after tribal fighting
A state of relative calm prevails in Um Dukhun locality after fierce fighting erupted between Salamat and Misseriya tribesmen on Thursday.
A committee of Ajaweed (tribal mediators) managed to contain the situation, a member of the committee reported to Radio Dabanga on Saturday.
Clashes broke out between the warring tribes on Thursday over cattle theft. Five Salamat and two Misseriya tribesmen were killed, several others were wounded. The fighting was reportedly still ongoing on Friday afternoon.
The source said that Central Darfur Governor Jaafar Abdelhakam formed the mediation committee “to stop the bloodshed, in preparation for a tribal tribunal that will end the tribal conflicts in the state”.
