Central Darfur displaced ill because of dire sanitary situation
Dozens of cases of fever and diarrhoea emerged among the residents of Hamidiya camp for the displaced in Zalingei locality, Central Darfur, during the past two weeks. “Many people in Hamidiya camp are suffering from diarrhoea, which is in some cases accompanied by fever and vomiting,” the coordinator of the Central Darfur camps told Radio Dabanga. “They fell ill when the rains appeared.” The coordinator said that the health centres at the camp daily receive between 50 to 60 cases. He attributed the emergence of these cases to the deterioration of the environmental health situation, and the drinking of non-chlorinated water. He called upon relief organisations to provide the camp residents with chlorinated water, mosquito nets, health education, to construct water drains, and bridge the pools.
