Central Darfur: Acute water shortage in Nierteti camps
The displaced in the Nierteti camps in Central Darfur are suffering from an acute shortage of drinking water. A resident of Nierteti North camp complained to Radio Dabanga after all the water pumps in the camps broke down. “The six water pumps at Nierteti North camp need repair. The two pumps at Nierteti South camp, and the three pumps at Garsila camp are broken too.” The displaced noted that the shortage led to the rise of the water prices by commercial vendors. “A barrel of water now costs SDG 20 ($3.50).” File photo: Water point in Turba, near El Fasher, North Darfur (Albert Gonzalez Farran/Unamid) Related: Water drought, flooding hits Central and North Darfur camps (5 September 2014)
