‘Camel militia’ gang rape eight women in Central Darfur
Eight displaced women were reportedly raped by militiamen at Wadi Sidir, east of Bindisi in Central Darfur. Others were beaten, lashed and robbed. A witness told Radio Dabanga that militiamen on camels and horses assaulted on Wednesday a group of displaced women while they were tending their farmlands at Wadi Sidir. The men alternately raped eight of the women, and only released them on Thursday. The women, who managed to escape, reported the assault to the authorities after which a “rescue team” of local residents together with the police went to search for the rapists. They did not find them.
