A boy burned to death in a massive fire that broke out in El Salam camp for the displaced near Nyala, capital of South Darfur, on Saturday.
Sheikh Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya told Radio Dabanga that the fire started close to midnight. “There was great panic, because the people were all asleep when the fire erupted.
“Nasir Mahmoud Yahya (10) burned to death inside the shelter of his family. About 30 homes went up in flames.”
Tabaldiya said that the cause of the fire is unclear. He appealed to the South Darfur authorities and humanitarian organisations to “provide humanitarian assistance to the affected, who have lost all their belongings, and are now living in the open”.
