‘Border Guards detain West Darfur citizens’: lawyer
Hashim Abdel Nabi El Sheikh, lawyer and human rights activist, has demanded from the authorities in West Darfur to stop the abuses by the Border Guards against the people of Juruf area, southeast of Sirba. One citizen has been detained for a week in the Border Guards’ camp. He told Radio Dabanga that one of the leaders of the Border Guards stationed at this area in Sirba locality, called Eisa Hussein Duruj, arrests and detains citizens “in a clear violation of the laws, customs and the Interim Constitution. “The right to arrest and detain are assigned by the Constitution and the law to specific bodies, under the regulations stipulated in the Code of Criminal Procedure”, El Sheikh said. He revealed that the last of these violations by commander Duruj was the detention of citizen Bakri Adouma Abubakar for a week inside the Border Guards’ camp, without releasing him so far. “This is in clear violation of Bakri’s legal rights, violation of the laws and the Constitution.” El Sheikh demanded the authorities to speed up putting an end to these violations and abuses by the border guards and protect the innocent citizens as well as demanding the immediate release of citizen Abubakar.
