Bomb explodes in North Darfur
A bomb exploded in the Dali area, west of Tabet in North Darfur causing a large fire and killing two horses. One of the cart owners, Mansour Musa told Radio Dabanga he was traveling with a colleague called Idris Abdul Sadig to collect firewood when they heard a huge explosion, followed by bursts of flames and heavy plumes of smoke. The horses and carts were destroyed. He said the incident was not the first of its kind, adding that a grenade killed a five year old child named Muhammed Suleiman over a month ago in the area. This, suggested Musa indictates the level of unexploded shells lying hidden in the region that were positioned last year during battles between government forces and the Sudan Liberation Moverment led by Minni Minawi. He said the areas of Tutumari, Dali, Masalit, Numera and Kora Fila are considered particularly hazardous. Musa appealed to local authorities and the joint UN/African Union Mission in Darfur to find and defuse unexploded shells in the area.
